Say Goodbye to E-Waste: Wellington E-Days Launching Soon!

Introducing Echo E-Days: Bringing the Sustainable E-Waste Recycling Movement to Wellington
At Echo, we’re committed to redefining the lifecycle of technology. As New Zealand’s largest locally owned e-waste recycling company, we provide secure, transparent, and sustainable IT asset management solutions. Our goal? To protect and preserve New Zealand’s environment for future generations by recovering 20,000 tonnes of e-waste annually by 2028.
What Are Echo E-Days?
Community outreach is a key part of our mission. For years, we’ve been running successful e-days in Auckland, helping locals recycle their unwanted electronics responsibly. Now, in 2025, we’re expanding this initiative to Wellington.
Starting in April, we’ll be hosting fortnightly Saturday e-days across Greater Wellington, including Porirua and Upper Hutt. These drive-through events will offer free recycling for common electronics, with a small fee for hard-to-recycle items. Not only do these events provide a convenient way to dispose of e-waste, but they also supportour charity partner, Variety– The Children’s Charity. In 2024 alone, our Auckland e-days engaged over 8,000 participants, diverted 199,000kg of e-waste from landfills, and raised $4,500 for Variety.
Why E-Waste Recycling Matters
New Zealand is the only OECD country without government regulations preventing e-waste from going into landfills. In 2022, New Zealanders generated 80 million kg of e-waste, with only around 2% being recycled. Each person contributes about 20kg of e-waste annually, much of which contains toxic materials that can contaminate soil and waterways.
Globally, electronic waste is one of the fastest-growing solid waste streams. In 2022, the world generated 62 million tonnes of e-waste, but only 22% was recycled. To put that into perspective, 62 million tonnes would fill 1.55 million fully loaded 18-wheeler trucks!
Plastic was invented over 120 years ago, yet only now are we truly grasping the impact of micro plastics on our health and the environment. If it takes another 120 years to fully adopt e-waste recycling, the consequences could be devastating. That’s why we’re committed to making responsible e-waste disposal accessible to all Kiwis.
