Turning E-Waste Into Climate Action: Echo Goes Carbon Positive!

Echo Achieves Carbon Positive Certification with Ekos
At Echo, we’ve always been driven by our mission to make a lasting impact on the environment by tackling New Zealand’s growing e-waste problem. Today, we’re proud to announce that our efforts have been recognised with the prestigious ‘Climate Positive Business Operations’ certification from Ekos, a leading provider of environmental auditing services.
What Does Carbon Positive Mean?
Achieving carbon-positive status means we’re not just neutralising our carbon footprint—we’re actively removing more carbon from the atmosphere than we produce. This milestone sets us apart as an industry leader, demonstrating our commitment to sustainability in an increasingly waste-conscious world.
How We Achieved Carbon Positive Certification
Working closely with Ekos, weconducted an extensive Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions audit to measure and manage our environmental impact. This included:
- Identifying and classifying different sources of emissions (Scope 1, Scope 2, Scope 3).
- Measuring and calculating emissions through detailed data collection.
- Reporting our emissions following the globally recognised GHG protocol.
- Undergoing external verification and auditing of our emissions data.
- Offsetting our emissions with verified carbon credits.
- Implementing a reduction plan to further decrease our CO2 output.
A Commitment to a Greener Future
“Our carbon-positive certification highlights Echo’s market-leading dedication to going beyond, driving meaning fulenvironmental change and tangible outcomes for our clients,” says Echo CEO Patrick Moynahan.
“The certification takes our ongoing commitment to the environment even further, ensuring our operations not only reduce environmental impact but also actively contribute to a greener futurefor all in Aotearoa New Zealand.”
With New Zealand generating approximately 120 million kilograms of e-waste each year, yet recycling only 2% of it properly, this certification reinforces our commitment to tackling this urgent issue head-on.
Why This Matters for Businesses

By working with Echo, organisations can ensure that their electronic waste is responsibly diverted from landfills, contributing to a cleaner and more sustainable future.
